Tricolored Heron in the Salt Marsh - Atlantic Beach North Caroli

This Tricolored Heron, (Egretta tricolor), is perched on the limb of a dead tree in a salt marsh at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. Encounters with this species is somewhat infreuent though several were obsereved on this late Septemember hike. This wetland area is observed from the Elliot Coues Nature Trail at Fort Macon State Park.
