In the Summer the Croatan National Forest gets very thick and green. Deciduous trees struggle for survival anoung the predominate pines. Thick underbrush covers the forest floor. There is beauty to be found in the chaos of the woodlands.

An old access roads createa a long, narrow grassy meadow in this North Carolina woodlands. Wildflowers flourish in the open sunlit area. Butterflies flit from blossom to blossom while dragonflies stalk their next meal. Such is life in the forest.

The Croatan National Forest occupies acerage in three eastern NC counties - Carteret, Craven and Jones. In it are several unique environments, forest, swamp, poccosin, and savanna. It is a wonderful natural resource for nature lovers, sportmen, hikers, photographers and artists.
