A Trail Runs Through It - Indian Creek Forest Walk

Description

Gold evening light bathes the Indian Creek Forest trail in Early May. This hiking trail was once well maintained with dead-falls frequently cleared from the path. The trail was originally blazed, however, without the permission of the National Forest Service who determined it crossed some historically significant areas. As such the trail is no longer manicured by volunteers. Only a short 1/2 mile section is official trail and groomed accordingly. The trailhead is located between New Bern and Pollocksville, North Carolina along Indian Creek Road. One of the more unique portions of the Croatan National Forest, the area features mixed forest and limestone outcroppings. Both which are rarely found on the coastal plain of eastern North Carolina.
