Description

In 1968 the US Navy constructed Lola Sation on Cedar Island along the North Carolia. The station served to provide communications with naval ships at sea on the Atlantic. While the station was decommissioned in 1970 the thirty-foot Navy Tower still stands where it serves as an aid to navigation for local mariners. A modern, metal radio tower stands next to the old naval structure.

In this color photograph the sun is rising over Core Sound. This view, captured on Cedarl Island National Wildlife Refuge land is found along Lola Road. The refuage's headquarters is located on the opposite side of the road.
