Young LIttle Blue Heron at Cedar Point NC

Description

Immature Little Blue Herons (Egretta caerulea) are frequently mistaken for Snowy Egrets. It's easy to understand considering their white plumage and similar size. Snowy Egrets have black bills and bright yellow feet. Although you cannot see this bird's feet they are not yellow. You might also notice that its bill is a blue-gray color. Many experts believe that the Little Blue and Snowy are close relatives.

This photograph was made along the Tideland Trail near Cedar Island, North Carolina. The trail is part of the Croatan National Forest and is an excellent location for bird watching as well as hiking. There is also a small boat ramp as well as a compground at this location.
