Fiddler Crab at Fort Macon State Park

While walking along a trail at Fort Macon State Park I came upon this large Fiddler Crab. About three or so inches across the carapice, it allowed me to grab a few photos. I used my telephoto lens so I could maintain some distance and help keep the crab comfortable with my presence. The park is located on the east end of Bogue Banks, a barrier island along the North Carolina coast. From Atlantic Beach, North Carolina travel east on Highway 58 / Ft. Macon road into the park. The park features a civil war era fort, a lovely beach, and a 3 plus mile long hiking trail. Common activities include birdwatching, fishing, beach combing, and swimming. There is also a visitor center with a nice museum at the park.
