My first thought was a giant's sling shot but I think this unique tree more closely resembles a tuning fork. The scene is just off the hiking trail and on the disc golf course that criss-crosses and parallels the popular footpath.
The park is located in the sea side community of Emerald Isle, one of several towns and villages making up the Crystal Coast in eastern North Carolina. A series of paths meander through the forest and next to the sound. Wildlife that may be encountered in the park includes White Tailed deer, Gray squirrel, Cotontail rabbit and a variety of birds.
